As an abstract expressionist, I work through the process of automatism (aw-tom-uh-tiz-uhm). This process allows me to let go. I have experimented with different ideas and modes of creativity, but these automatic drawings are a way for me to balance my craft. From my subconscious I scribble and scratch my pen while on occasion turning the paper to create a curious artistic expression. The balance lies in my love for design and the way placement makes me feel. By using a mix of frames, mattes, and color, along with the placement on the pieces with multiple drawings, I stylize each piece to satisfy a feeling I enjoy.
Drawing through this automatic process is highly therapeutic for me. I had the honor of doing an artist talk and demonstration on the therapeutic value of automatism in art for Stanford University undergrads studying biotechnology/biodesign. Artist talks, workshops and events are an important aspect of my work in order to share more on the topic to teach and help others release, let go, and create.
